Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why would I use flynote, when sites like Blogger are also free, and let me choose templates and stuff.
A. Yep. Flynote doesn't even attempt to provide the feature-set and customizability that blogging platforms like Blogger and WordPress do. But the way we see it, this is exactly why users are attracted to flynote. It's a less less less is more approach! Because without templates and the like, there are that many less steps between your idea, and it's publication in a searchable swarm of posts.

Q. Can I format the text in my posts and include links and images?
A. Flynote provides some very basic formating options, including the ones that you mention. For a detailed explanation of how your can format your posts, check out the formating help section.

Q. How can I use Flynote as a personal blog, where people can view only my own posts?
A. Flynote makes it easy to share only your own notes and posts. You can use the web address www.flynote.com/<username>. For example the flynote "blog" can be viewed at www.flynote.com/flynote. You can also always look at another user's notes (and only their notes) by clicking on their username, which shows up next to each note entry.

Q. What does is take for my notes to show up in the "Popular" section?
A. While we can't give you the exact formula for our Popular determination, we can say that in general, the more users that view, rate your note highly, and comment on it, the better your chances.

Q. What's up with the Ads?
A. As flynote.com is a completely free site, we have had to allow some unobtrusive ads on our pages, to help defray hosting costs.

Q. I see that sometimes there are little pictures that pop up next to usernames. How can I do this for my username?
A. These images are called "avatars". Once you're logged in, you will see a "Settings" link in the upper-right, which you should click. In the settings page, you will see a button labeled "Browse". Clicking the browse buttom will allow you navigate to an image on your computer. Once you have found an image, click Ok, then click the "Upload" button. Avatar images should be less than 60kb in size, or they will take a long time to load on slow connections.
